Tivat is situated in the central part of the Boka Bay (Boka Kotorska), on the southwest slopes of Vrmac (765m). Tivat Bay with the Krtolj archipellagu, and its stunning, magnificent and breathtaking views is currently the biggest of four bays in Boka Kotorska. It is located in the middle between Budva, Kotor and Herceg Novi. From the town of Kotor it is only 7 minutes drive by car, from Budva 20 and from Herceg Novi 30-45 minutes.
With its position in the Bay of Kotor, numerous coves, peninsula Prevlaka, island St Marco, the famous beach Pržno, and the Porto Montenegro marina, Tivat is listed on the tourist maps as an exceptionally attractive touristic destination.
Tivat has a typically Mediterranean climate, with mild but rainy winters and sunny and warm summers. One can say that Tivat has the characteristic climate, caused by the nonhomogeneous relief. The average yearly temperature is 15°C. This is the sunniest town in the Bay of Kotor with 2446.2 sunny hours a year. The most common winds are ”Bura” (northeast wind) in the winter and mistral (northwest wind) in the summer months. Sirocco (jugo), a warm wind that brings a lot of rain is common during the fall and winter seasons.
On the Tivat Riviera the sea is clean and the air refreshingly mild. Thanks to the favorable climate and good geographical position, Tivat is rich in horticultural potential. In addition to various local Mediterranean plants, one may notice a number of exotic plants brought and seeded by sailors from all over the world. Different species, such as magnolia, mimosa, camellia, oleander, agave, bougainvillea, eucalyptus, Chilean fir and other, have acclimatized here because of the favorable climate.
International airport is located close to the town.
Single-handedly responsible for Tivat's transformation, this surreal 24-hectare town-within-a-town occupies the former Arsenal shipyard and naval base. Primped, preening and planned right down to the last polished pebble, the almost impossibly glamorous complex includes five upmarket apartment buildings, a ‘lifestyle village’ of fancy boutiques, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities, a museum, and berths for 450 yachts (with a total of 850 berths planned by completion). The Regent resort is situated in Porto’s heart.
